“I don’t wanna be another wave in the ocean
I am a rock not just another grain of sand
I wanna be the one you run to when you need a shoulder
I ain’t a soldier but I’m here to take a stand”

“Because we can, our love can move a mountain
We can, if you believe in we
We can, just wrap your arms around me
We can, we can”

Bon Jovi

I hear often “why? Why try to achieve anything, nothing good happens or I can’t advance.” If you know someone who has this attitude then maybe these lyrics will inspire them.

Bon Jovi expresses two strong points to consider. He tells his love he wants more out of life, he has the fortitude to reach his goals and dreams. He is telling her he wants to be her “leader” and he will always be there for her. He states he will never settle for less than their goals by saying “I’m here to take a stand.”

“The things you do for yourself are gone when you are gone, but the things you do for others remain as your legacy.”
Kalu Ndukwe Kalu

The second stanza, tells the title Bon Jovi chose for the song. He states nothing is impossible if you simply believe. Believe in your abilities, believe in you! It doesn’t matter what happened in the past you can overcome all the disappointments life has handed to you because they are tests to strengthen your character. This can be accomplished if you believe in the people who are always around you, who are always there to help you achieve your goals. This is why you can be that leader because you believe and “Because we can!”

“If you do not change direction, you may end up where you are heading.”
 Lao Tzu

If you have never heard of Jon Krakauer, let me have the pleasure him to you. Born in my hometown of Brookline, Mass. He is a top mountaineer and writer.

After graduating from Hampshire College (1976), he spent three weeks alone in the wilderness of the Stikine Icecap region of Alaska and climbed a new route on the Devils Thumb, an experience he described in Eiger Dreams and in Into the Wild. In 1992, he made his way to Cerro Torre in the Andes of Argentine Patagonia—a sheer granite peak considered to be one of the most difficult technical climbs in the world.

In a speech to motivate the audience on maximizing their life, he told them; “Make a radical change in your lifestyle and begin to boldly do things which you may previously never have thought of doing, or been too hesitant to attempt. So many people live within unhappy circumstances and yet will not take the initiative to change their situation because they are conditioned to a life of security, conformity, and conservation, all of which may appear to give one peace of mind, but in reality nothing is more damaging to the adventurous spirit within a man than a secure future. The very basic core of a man’s living spirit is his passion for adventure. The joy of life comes from our encounters with new experiences, and hence there is no greater joy than to have an endlessly changing horizon, for each day to have a new and different sun. If you want to get more out of life, you must lose your inclination for monotonous security and adopt a helter-skelter style of life that will at first appear to you to be crazy. But once you become accustomed to such a life you will see its full meaning and its incredible beauty.”

You may argue against more devious, more intelligent, or more excitable people, but you can never control their conduct, you might not ever have their skills, or calm their emotions, and the only thing you really control in life is your preparation. So, prepare yourself and your team fully, then and only then you know you have done all you can do to achieve an optimal result.

“To each there comes in their lifetime a special moment when they are figuratively tapped on the shoulder and offered the chance to do a very special thing, unique to them and fitted to their talents. What a tragedy if that moment finds them unprepared or unqualified for that which could have been their finest hour.”
Winston Churchill
